The Texas Road Trip
                 July 1998

I have been asked to give my rendition of this Road Trip. The reason I have been hesitant to do so is because my memory of this road trip is somewhat limited to certain specific incidents. In other words, I have lost my mind!

Let me see if I can remember who was even there…

My best recollection of this trip is getting lost and shopping with Soundman. Let me explain…

We were all going to a restaurant for dinner one night that was like 100 miles away. This was GJ’s idea, you understand, and he claims to have eaten there before. So, we all pile in 3 separate vehicles…FOI2 is driving Rocket’s van, I’m driving Texy’s Pathfinder and SeeRay is in his Camaro. We are driving down the highway 90 miles an hour and each one of us a walkie-talkie in the car so that we can communicate with each other. All of a sudden, SeeRay tells us that he is out of gas! Not running out of gas…out of gas and we see him zoom off the exit. Too late to get off, I have to head to the next exit, go all the way around, and come back. By the time I finally get to where he is, he is gassed and ready to head out again. We get back on the highway and travel for what seems like hours and finally reach this really bad part of town. The part of town where you need a gun…. Know what I mean? So we are all driving up and down these streets trying to find this restaurant that GJ has eaten at before, but he has somehow come up with a bad case of amnesia now and can’t remember where the heck it is. So we drive around in this part of town, afraid for our lives, round and round in circles and finally we stop to get directions….DUH!!!  Dinner is served. 

Then, coming back, a bunch of us get in Texy’s car and head back to the hotel. Somehow I missed the road that we are supposed to turn on and ugh, well, I’m not admitting it, but I’m lost! We drive and drive and finally, by some great miracle, we find the hotel. 

OK, now GJ, Texy, Soundman, and I go to the store to get beer and stuff. Nobody tells us this, but Soundman is a shopper. We are talking WORSE than a women ok? We get in this store and he is like all over the place looking at stuff. So a simple beer run took us like two hours.

The next day, we are all to go floating in tubes down the Guadalupe River. So, everyone decides they need to go to Kmart and buy supplies. Everybody gets out and goes in this store and two hours later, out comes Soundman (the last one) with all this stuff! Ok, then we have to go to the liquor store to get beverages for the trip. That is another hour. We finally get in the cars and head for the river. Texy is driving our car and it’s Lilli, Sharsee, Texy and me. We are following these guys and all of a sudden, Texy gets off the highway cause she thinks this is the exit…and it wasn’t. We get back on the highway and try to find the others and guess what? We lost them…So we drive around for an hour or so and try to find them, but we never find them. We decide we are going to the bar and drink margaritas. We go have strawberry ones and hang out at the bar for a couple of hours and decide to go back to the hotel. They are all back at the hotel pool! They had tried to get on the river for 3 hours and never could get on. They had to stand out in the unbearable heat and wait while we were in the bar sipping our margaritas…. hehe. AND while they were there, they had started a riot! And almost got arrested! They got mad about having to wait so long for the tubs, that they got everybody in the place stirred up and created a scene.

GJ, Texy, Soundman, and I decide to make another beer run. This time Texy and I get out of the car and tell GJ and Soundman to stay in the car; we are just running in to get the stuff and will be right back out. We tell GJ not to let Soundman out of the car. We get the stuff and come back out to the car and Soundman is gone. GJ let him out of the car! So we all go to find him. We split up so we can cover the store faster. It takes us 30 minutes, but we finally found him…. in the fishing gear! Sheesh! Don’t EVER go shopping with Soundman.

Roc and Cme’s wedding…what a lovely thing. They get all dressed up and they are sitting at separate computers and they say their vows and then they go out and everyone throws rice at them…was a lovely thing…I think. 

Let’s see what else do I remember….

Mack buying everybody mudslide’s in the bar…we drank them till we were sick.

Roc doing improv on the guitar…I laughed till I was sick. GJ taped the whole thing on video and when I went and had them processed, the sound was not turned on! MAN!@@!#!!@#$

GJ, Mack, and SeeRay waking me up at 3:00am to get stoned.

The near head-on collision in the parking lot with me driving Texy’s Pathfinder. That was cool! I had it under control ok!

Them pushing razeman into the pool everytime he went in, took a shower, and put on clean clothes…. until he had no more dry, clean clothes!

Oh yeah…our final dinner together at the Grist Mill in Gruen. We had been talking about how good this place was and how it was THE PLACE to eat down there. Really cool place built on the side of the river, up in the trees. It’s famous the world over for it’s atmosphere. We all pile in the cars and drive over there and we didn’t get lost! When we get there… they were just closing… Everybody is dejected, rejected, and hungry and it’s late and started walking back to the cars. I talk to the guy at the front, tell him that our friends from Australia have come all this way to eat at their restaurant and this is their last night there, and please let us eat. They tell us to hold on, go back in the back, come back out, and decide to serve us! They had the wait staff and cooks stay late so we could all eat… was great!

That was Road Trip #2! …To the best I can recollect…hehe…ok, what did I leave out?
