OW Development Team Meeting

Sat 11th Sept 2004 6PM VRT

Christopher D would like the team to have a world where we could test and display the things we are doing. It has been decided that we don't actually need a world since most team members are already world owners. In the future this might change but since there have been no valid reasons yet for purchasing a world the idea is on hold until we need one.

Christopher D suggested a banking system for tourists. I read the logs from the town meeting which was also on the same day and it turns out that they have already developed a more interactive banking system which will be released soon. I have no details on this yet but I've emailed Guardian to see if I can squeeze some info :o). Christopher D would like to see tourists taken better care of but it was pointed out that if tourists had the same functions as citizens then there'd be no point in anyone buying a citizenship. I suggested that maybe we could maybe have some kind of tourist campaign to lure people in.

One thing that is repeated often is the lack of things we can actually do with VR bucks. The ideas proposed have been fruitless but we're hopeful someone will think of something.

With the development of the Alicebot by Xor there have been issues involving AIML. Christopher D wants the Alicebot to learn things. The bot can already learn things it all depends on which AIML set is loaded. People can also create their own AIML which means the bot is almost completely customizable. I will be trying to get some AIML tutorials and information up on this site during this week but lack of internet mon-fri has been causing problems.

Some users want to run Outerworlds on other operating systems. There have been no plans released by AW (that we're aware of) that states they'll port the software to other systems. The only solution at the moment is to use an emulator but attempts at that have not been successful. Unfortunatly the development team cannot do anything with the AW browser software so this really isn't an issue for us. We'd like to know if anyone has managed to run the browser on another operating system though so a tutorial or how-to can be written on it. If you've managed to get the browser running on another OS please let us know by contacting us.

Xor wanted to know if OW has plans for bot hosting and if so will it be on Windows. As far as I know, yes they are planning on offering bot hosting and since their servers are on Windows it can be assumed that the bot hosting will also be on Windows.

Christopher D wants a page on this site that he can edit. It can be done with PHP and MySQL once they are up and running and stable. I emailed Guardian about the PHP and he said that he's got it running with MsSQL. As soon as I can get some time I'll get a type of content management system up for dev team members. I also still have to test the PHP and MsSQL and I will do so as soon as possible.

A log of this meeting was sent to the development team mailing list. Any members should have received it. If you'd like a copy, email the team mentioning the date of the meeting (11th September 2004) and someone will send it to you.
